Information Security

Information is a core driver of our ability to deliver on our overall objective of strengthening the democratic organization of the civil society, building regional networks and people-to-people exchange of experiences amongst civil society organizations.

We recognize that we are pursuing this overall objective in a dynamic and rapidly changing information risk environment. Therefore, we must maintain clarity with our partners and collaborators on this risk environment and our inability to enforce standardized, scalable and secure IT solutions to mitigate those information risks due to the complexities of our governance structure and operational context.

We strive to take a trust-based risk management approach where we encourage and trust all participants to protect themselves and everyone they interact with when receiving, sharing and communicating information by applying cyber and information security best practices and behaviours.

This approach highlights NDF’s commitment to transparency and, most importantly, the end user’s sole responsibility for their own security.

Our commitment

Based on our position, the NDF is committed to:

  • Provide a list of information security resources that our stakeholders can rely on to mitigate said risks. *please see below*
  • Dissemination of this document to all NDF collaborators to ensure, transparency, clarity and informed consent.
  • Informing journalists and human rights defenders in distress who they should contact in case of an emergency.
  • Annual update of this document and the resources mentioned in it.
