Violence against Women: Breaking the cycle through empowerment and economic independence
This project is a new collaboration between the three organisations, Democracy Today (Armenia) and Danner (Denmark), address the pressing issue of violence against women (VAW) in Armenia. This project will make it possible for the project partners to develop an intervention focusing on empowering women in rural Armenia through economic empowerment, education on violence against women, and psychological support. The target groups of this future intervention will be:
– Women who, due to their exposure to violence, need psycho-social support and empowerment.
– Women who lack access to education, support services, and economic opportunities.
– Women in difficult economic situations (including single mothers, refugee women, widows etc.)
– Women from vulnerable groups who seek opportunities to gain new skills, find employment, or create their own sources of income
The goal of this project is, thus, to lay the foundation for a sustainable and enduring cooperation between the Danish organisation Danner, and the two Armenian organisations, Democracy Today and Arpi, by pooling the expertise, understanding of the target group and context and methodologies to support women victims of violence to gain economic independence and, thereby hopefully, break free from one of the main challenges for living a life free from violence. Therefore, this project’s primary target group is staff members of the three organisations. The three organisations will meet in Yerevan to co-create and develop the shared future intervention. The three organisations will spend time on workshops, discussions, brainstorming, field visits, to gain in-depth knowledge of the project’s target groups as well as mapping of activities, budgeting etc. By the end of this project, the three organisations will not only have a stronger idea of their shared vision but also an actual intervention idea and proposal.
